The Looking Glass
From the book of poetry 'Animal Souls' by Michael Fisher
I heard noises last night
From a room at the end of the tunnel
Visions on shattered glass
Impressive, innocent, white
Fresh footprints on dead grass
And children in some sort of huddle
Let me recall that night
I must feel the pain so I can be free
I had that dream last night
Children under water
Innocent, drowning, white
Young life under glass
Shattered memories from the past
Let me recall that night
I must feel the pain
So I can be free
I wait for the night
From this room I cannot leave
Innocent, lonely, white
Looking through covered glass
We go many places
We see the same faces
Let me recall that night
I must feel the pain
So I can be free
So I can be me
